Building Description

402 West Pender Street is a prime example of a Vancouver heritage office building. Its brick, stone, and glazed terra cotta exterior and its distinct interior and exterior detailing make this one of the most recognized heritage structures in the city. Located at a prominent corner at the intersection of West Pender and Homer Streets, the building is within walking distance of the Downtown Financial District, Gastown and Crosstown. The building features an award-winning lobby and hallways restoration, with excellent views.

 

This eight-story brick, stone, and glazed terra-cotta landmark building was built in 1911-1912 at the height of the economic upswing immediately after the First World War. The building is an excellent example of Chicago School exterior articulation and Edwardian-era Classical Revival ornamentation. The building has since been modernized through major renovations in 2022, with new washrooms on each floor and a re-facing of the exterior brick facade.

The interior of most units retains nearly all of its original plan, materials, and decoration including original frosted glass office partitions, unit radiators & oak framed windows and doors.
